Polaris Dance Company Apprentice
Natalie Press was born in Portland, Oregon where she began training under the direction of Laura Haney and Erin Zintek. While in Portland, Natalie was a member of the MAC Dance Company for seven years. There she performed works in a range of styles both regionally and nationally. She continued her training at the Boston Conservatory and graduated in May 2017 with a BFA in Contemporary Dance Performance, with a focus in pedagogy and modern technique. While at the conservatory, Natalie performed works by world renowned choreographers Sidra Bell, Zoe Scofield, and Brian Brooks as well as works by faculty members Tommy Neblett and Lorraine Chapman. She most recently performed at the Institute of Contemporary Art Boston in an exhibit highlighting artists from Black Mountain College. In this exhibit she performed excerpts of work by Merce Cunningham, staged by Silas Riener. Natalie also trained at additional programs including The Cambrians, Northwest Dance Project, San Francisco Conservatory of Dance, and BodyVox. During these intensives she performed repertoire by Ohad Naharin, Sarah Slipper, Yin Yue, and new works by Christian Burns and Franco Nieto. In addition to dancing, Natalie also teaches. She has worked alongside Sean Murphy at the Eliot School in Boston. Upon graduation, Natalie has moved back to Portland. This is Natalie’s first season as an apprentice for Polaris Dance Theatre. She is eager to see where this next chapter takes her!
